SIKESTON -- After many years of serving as the centerpiece of Sikeston, renovation of the Sikeston Depot has begun in an effort to restore it to glory.
Renovations began Monday with hopes of it being completed by the end of the year.
Plans call for it to have a historical museum featuring Sikeston and surrounding areas.
Tammy Carlyle, director of the regions convention and visitors Bureau said plans include art exhibits from the Smithsonian and the Department of Natural Resources to display at the depot once it opens. The depot will also be used to host special events.
The depot was originally built in 1917, after a fire destroyed the original building.
