Opera singer scheduled to perform at church

LEBANON, Ill. -- Christine Brewer will present a recital at 3 p.m. Nov. 10 at the First United Methodist Church in Lebanon.

She grew up in Grand Tower, Ill., and attended Shawnee High School. Her father, Donald Burchyett, still lives in Grand Tower, and her mother, the late Deloris Burchyett, was a member of the Shawnee Trio.

Brewer began her musical training under the direction of Meta Cozby in Jonesboro, Ill., and eventually performed with the Metropolitan Opera.

Two-week Life Action Crusade comes to Anna

ANNA, Ill. -- A Life Action crusade will begin at 9:15 a.m. Nov. 10 and continue each weekday evening at 7 p.m. through Nov. 24 at Anna Heights Baptist Church, 100 Turner Ave.

The crusade, which has 27 members, will feature instructional preaching, family seminars, music and children's programs. There will be nightly performances by the Life Action Singers.

The Red Star Baptist Church food pantry in Cape Girardeau is in immediate need of food donations to help feed over 80 families a month.

During the holiday months, that number may increase to 130 families. For information on what is needed and how to donate, call the Rev. Jim Matthews or Denae Siebert, administrative assistant, at 335-3381, or come by the church at 1301 N. Main from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Dr. Schroeder to speak at Westminster Presbyterian

Dr.Walter Schroeder will be speaking during worship, at 10:45 a.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church on Sunday. He will be speaking on "The Search For Pure Truth."

Schroeder is an ear, nose and throat surgeon in Cape Girardeau and an elder at the Westminster Church.

The public is invited to attend.

Cape Methodist church holds fall bazaar today

Handcrafted items, baked goods and jellies are some of what will be on sale today at the Maple United Methodist Church's Holiday Bazaar. The event will take place from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the church, which is at Jean Ann and Cape Rock Drive in Cape Girardeau.
