Nazarene church breaks ground for Jackson project
Jackson Church of the Nazarene held a groundbreaking service Sunday at the location of its new building, 2245 Old Toll Road.
Arkansas evangelist to visit Cape church
Evangelist Walton Weaver of Conway, Ark., will lead services Sunday through Friday at the North Cape Church of Christ for a fall Gospel meeting.
The services are at 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday and weekdays at 7:30 p.m.
Weaver has worked with churches in Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi and Texas previously. He has written many adult Bible study guides and workbooks and a commentary on Philippians and Colossians.
Benefit concert planned to fund scholarship
Lynwood Baptist Church will hold a benefit concert Oct. 4 to help fund a scholarship in honor of Josh Lemons who died in an auto accident in May. The event begins at 7 p.m.
Church to hold satellite seminar with noted author
Fruitland Community Church will hold a satellite broadcast from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday with author Philip Yancey. He will speak about "borderlands of belief" and his new book "Rumors of Another World."
Yancey has more than 6 million copies of his books in print. His two most noted, "The Jesus I Never Knew" and "What's So Amazing About Grace?" were both named Christian Book of the Year.

St. Andrew to mark '40 days of Purpose'
St. Andrew Lutheran Church will kick off a "40 Days of Purpose" campaign Oct. 5 with a video presentation with author Rick Warren. The event is part of an anniversary celebration marking the congregation's 46th year. Warren has written "40 Days to the Purpose Driven Life," which will guide the church's study.
Church Women United luncheon set
Church Women United, an ecumenical organization, will meet for a luncheon from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 26 at New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson.
Awana program begins in Fruitland church

The Council of Catholic Women for the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Catholic Diocese will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at St. Augustine parish in Kelso.
Brush arbor service in works at Trinity UMC
Trinity United Methodist Church in Oran will hold a brush arbor service at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 21 to mark the 300th anniversary of John Wesley's birth. Wesley founded Methodism and was known for preaching open-air sermons. The outdoor service will include special music and hymns written by Wesley's brother Charles, a sermon of Wesley's and a visit by a circuit rider.
