Area children's ministry leaders invited to festival

A regional children's ministry workshop, CAPE FEST, is planned for July 24 at the House of Hope, 1000 Ranney in Cape Girardeau. CAPE FEST is an acroynm for Creative Annointed Prayerful Evangelism For Equipping Servants Today. Events begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 6 p.m. The day includes speakers on puppetry, ballooning, gospel illusions and object lessons, sign language and face painting. There is a registration fee due by July 1, which includes lunch. Discounted rates are available for groups of six or more. Registration information should be mailed to Puppet Power, in care of Charlotte Reed at 6228 County Road 621, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63701, or call 339-7274.

Seven area pastors recognized for service

Seven area pastors recently were recognized for community service and leadership at the second annual Regional Pastoral Recognition, sponsored by Chambers and Associates, a Southern Illinois consulting firm. The 2004 honorees were Kevin Badgley of Living Hope Fellowship in Grand Chain, Ill.; Jack Hill of First Baptist Church, Ullin, Ill.; Charlie Green of Green Memorial Church of God in Christ, Sikeston, Mo.; Steve Betts of Opportunity Church of God in Christ, Charleston, Mo.; Carl Hughlett of Abundant Life Praise and Worship Center, Carrier Mills, Ill.; Calvin Cole, Sr. of Mount Moriah Missonionary Baptist Church in Paducah, Ky.; and Tressie Ford of Jesus is Lord Church in Cairo, Ill.

Financial Peace University classes coming to area

Financial Peace University classes with best-selling author Dave Ramesy are beginning in Cape Girardeau. The 13-week program will teach families and individuals how to handle money using common-sense principles. Topics include budgeting, relationship and money issues, getting out of debt, understanding investments and insurance, retirement planning and the blessing of giving. Classes begin at Mount Auburn Christian Church at 7:30 p.m. each Monday starting July 5. Contact Bradley Gregg at 243-0423 for more information.

Fall semester openings available at preschool

Openings are still available for the fall semester at Westminster Christian Preschool on the corner of Cape Rock Drive and Perryville Road. Children whose parents or legal guardians are members of Westminster Presbyterian Church are eligible to receive a 50 percent deduction in tuition. To enroll or for more information, call 334-4344.

The Cape Girardeau County Christian Women's Club is sponsoring a luncheon July 12 at Port Cape Girardeau. The luncheon begins at 11 a.m. Janet Roark of Wildwood, Mo., will be the guest speaker. Luncheon and day care reservations can be made by calling Bonnie Macke at 243-2866 by July 8.

Stephen ministers to be commissioned at Hanover

Several Stephen ministers will be commissioned during the 7:45 and 10 a.m. services Sunday at Hanover Lutheran Church. The Stephen Ministry leaders to be commissioned are pastor Daniel Hackney, Shirley Leimer and Charlene Hauh. Dr. Bill Matzat will conduct the service at 10 a.m. A reception is planned afterward in the church's family room.-- From staff reports

Gospel singing at 10:30 a.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church. The groups Reflection, the Happy Four and Living Grace will perform. A noon meal will be served and an afternoon song session begins at 1:30 p.m.
