First Baptist Church has announced the Rev. Mike Shupert as its new senior pastor. For the past five years, Shupert has served in various roles at the church, including education minister and as interim pastor for the congregation. Shupert, 47, was ordained to preach by his home church, Centennial Baptist Church of Mexico, Mo. He served there in his first staff position. He has served churches in Missouri, Kentucky and Taipei, Taiwan. He is a graduate of Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo., and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City. Shupert and his wife, Brenda, have four children.
Several volunteers from First Baptist Church in Jackson are attending the Crossover Nashville event this weekend prior to the start of the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting in Nashville, Tenn. The members include Bob and Laraine Adams, Jim, Levi, Logan, Sierra and Novena Bollinger, Carolynn Britt, Betty Cord, Andrea Hill, Charles, Craig and Linda Hutson, Karen and Travis Johnson, Cherie Lukefahr, Janet Mouser, Bob and Janie Owens, Bob and Bobbi Price, Pat Schwab, Pam and Rick Sparks, Tyler Tankersley, Anthony Werner,and Art and Terri Woods. The group will take part in block parties, sports clinics, spiritual opinion surveys and other outreach efforts.
Red Star Baptist Church will again sponsor a Sports Crusaders summer basketball camp for children in first grade through sixth. The camp runs from July 18 to 22. The cost per participant includes lunch each day. Exact times will be announced later. Call the church at 335-3381 for more details or to register.

The OASIS Club (Older Adults Still in Service) of Christian Faith Fellowship will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Landing Place Restaurant for its monthly meeting.
The Rev. Benjamin Meyer will be the guest preacher at both the 7:45 and 10 a.m. services at Hanover Lutheran Church. Meyer will be serving as the mission pastor for the Lutheran Mission Partnership of Southeast Missouri.
First Baptist Church will hold a Father's Day picnic at 12:30 p.m. at Kiwanis Park shelter 1.
The Village Singers, a bluegrass and Southern gospel quartet, will perform at 6 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church. There will be a love offering collected during the service.
