Gospel singing slated at church

Shiloh Baptist Church in Villa Ridge, Ill., will host a gospel singing at 7 p.m. May 4. Featured guests will be the Gloryroad Travelers and others.

Jackson church to hold songfest on May 5

Immaculate Conception Church of Jackson, Mo., will hold the first of several scheduled Songfests May 5 at the church.

The songfest will include music by the entire music department: adult choir, youth chorale, two handbell choirs, cantors, the I.C. brass, woodwinds and guitarists. The performance will be at 2:30 p.m.

The concert is free. Doors open at 2 p.m. A reception will be held afterwards.

Church Women United to celebrate friendship

The Church Women United of Cape Girardeau will celebrate Friendship Day at 6 p.m. May 3.

The host church will be Evangelical United Church of Christ. Refreshments will be served during a "happy hour" and Betty Fadler will entertain on the piano.

The service at 6:30 p.m. is called "Sharing our Stores, Healing our Hearts, Celebrating God's Love." Meta Siemers will lead worship.

Ministry mails checks to race riot survivors

TULSA, Okla. -- A Tulsa ministry has mailed reparation checks to 131 survivors of a 1921 race riot, most of whom were children when whites laid waste to black neighborhoods with guns and torches.

The Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry Reparations Gift Fund, an interfaith coalition, disbursed $28,000 in checks to the elderly survivors.
