Teens selected for WMU recognition

Holly Stockard and Toni Smith, both members of First Baptist Church in Jackson, were selected at the 2004 Top Teens by the national Woman's Missionary Union in Birmingham, Ala. Eight girls from across the nation were chosen to receive the award. Stockard and Smith will be recognized during the Missouri WMU meeting in Poplar Bluff in April. Stockard is the daughter of David and Vivian Stockard of Jackson. She is an honor roll senior at Jackson High School and involved in drama and French clubs, Jackson Acting Motivators, FBLA and has received top rating for choir ensembles at both the district and state levels. Smith is the daughter of Curt and Mary Smith of Jackson. She is a senior and is involved in the Family Career and Community Leaders of America and is a member of the band and Acting Motivators.

Jordan Hinkle also has been selected as a member of the WMU 2004 Olympics Ministry Team that will go to Athens, Greece, in mid-August for the Olympics. The team will include six college women and two representatives of the national WMU. Hinkle is a student at Southeast Missouri State University and a member of First Baptist Church, where she is the seventh-grade Acteens leader. She is the daughter of Charles and Amy Hinkle of Jackson.

Southern gospel quartet to sing in Scott City

The Southern gospel group, the Cumberland Quartet of Branson, will perform at 7 p.m. March 6 at First Assemby of God Church in Scott City. Admission is free but an offering will be taken.

Community invited to pray for U.S. military

The Cape Girardeau community is invited to gather for prayers for the military on the first Monday of each month at Mount Auburn Christian Church. Monday is the first service. The service was prompted by the deployment of the National Guard's 1140th Engineering Batallion. Organizers are looking for volunteers to help with music, meditations or leading in prayer. Photographs of enlisted miltary personnel will be placed on a bulletin board at the church. Morley church begins financial study series

Morley Baptist Church will begin an eight-week study on Sunday evenings on "Discovering God's Way of Handling Money." The series will be from 5 to 6 p.m. at the church, beginning Sunday. Ministry conference at area church

Scott Hinkle Outreach Ministries and Soul Winners International will present a Precision Strike conference March 5 to 7 at Christ Church of the Heartland.

The conference begins at 7 p.m. March 6 and meetings from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m. March 6 and at 10 a.m. March 7.

Gospel singing
