Local churches hold auctions, bazaars

Centenary United Methodist Church will hold its Harvest Moon Bazaar from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 15 . The event will feature food and decor as well as a silent auction. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For tickets or for more information, call 334-3460.

First Free Will Baptist Church's ladies auxiliary will hold a public auction at 10 a.m. Oct. 15 at the church. Lunch and crafts will be available. All proceeds will go to missions and special church needs.

Emanuel United Church of Christ will hold a bazaar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 15. There will be coffee and sweets from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and chicken and dumplings from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Crafts, baked goods and produce will be available.

South Side Baptist Church will have a Harvest Day Oct. 16. Singing will begin at 1:30 p.m., featuring the Pullen family of Wyatt, Mo. For more information, call 339-9598.

Wesley United Methodist Church in Fruitland will have a "Harvest of Souls" party for children ages 7 to 12 on Oct. 16. Christian illusionist D.J. Edwards will perform magic tricks and there will be carnival games and a costume contest. The events will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the lower church level.

St. Mark Lutheran Church welcomes new pastor

The Rev. S. Michael Malone was recently ordained as pastor at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. Malone grew up in Ohio and Tennessee and attended Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind. and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. He and his wife, Kathy, have two sons.

Health fair event held at Christ Epsicopal Church

Neighborhood Connection will sponsor a free health fair and screening from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 22 at Christ Episcopal Church. Screenings for depression, blood pressure, glucose levels and pulminary function will be available. A light lunch will be served.

First Baptist to feature homecoming event

First Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau will hold a homecoming event and installation service for the Rev. Mike Shupert Oct. 30. The event will begin at 10:45 a.m. with morning worship and the installation service and will be followed by an open house with historic displays and tours at 2 p.m. The homecoming celebration begins at 4 p.m. and includes special music.

Ugly quilt weekend at St. Vincent de Paul Church

St. Vincent de Paul Christian Service will sponsor its annual Ugly Quilt weekend from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 29 and 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 30. Participants will make sleeping bags for the homeless. Volunteers are needed to lay out fabric, thread needles and tie knots. For more information, call 335-9275 or 335-0372.
