Grace Church to hold musical event today

Grace United Methodist Church will hold a music festival, "Feel the Power, Feel the Praise," on the church lawn today. Activities begin at 6 p.m. at the church on Broadway and Caruthers Street. Brats and hot dogs will be served, and there will be games and activities for children. The program includes music from the Fred Poston band, pianist Shane Steck, handbell music from Grace Notes choir, soloists and small groups, the Grace Chancel Choir and a newly formed ensemble All in One. In case of rain, the event will be held inside the Central Middle School cafeteria.

Lutheran chapel to begin sanctuary renovations

Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel will worship in its sanctuary for the final time before a half-million-dollar renovation project begins. The combined worship service Sunday will be at 10 a.m. After the service, the sanctuary will be closed for four months for renovations by Brockmiller Construction of Farmington, Mo. In the interim period, the church will worship in a different part of its facility. The current sanctuary has served the church since 1968. During the renovations, the church's kitchen will be enlarged, the office complex reconfigured and the basement dedicated for youth ministry.

Crystal River boys will sing at the 8:30 and 10:40 a.m. worship services at First General Baptist Church in Jackson.

Pastor Peter Rupprecht, interim minister at St. Mark Lutheran Church ELCA, will begin a Sunday school and sermon series on the book "Reclaiming the 'L' word: Renewing the church from its Lutheran core" by Kelly Fryer. The series will focus on understanding the Lutheran heritage. Sunday school is at 9 a.m.; worship is at 10 a.m.

Annual Life Chain from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Cemetery of the Innocents on Silver Springs Road in Cape Girardeau.

Reunion at Swinton Christian Church and basket dinner at 12:30 p.m. The Rev. Jesse Dugger of Advance, Mo., will preach the annual sermon.

Jews for Jesus missionary Petr Barbatunov will be at Lynwood Baptist Church at 6 p.m. He will present "Christ in the Feast of the Tabernacles." The presentation aims to enrich the church's understanding of the gospel and the Jewish roots of the Christian faith. A love offering will be collected.

Monday

Revival with speaker Frank Guinta at Broadway United Methodist Church in Scott City. Guinta has been a minister for 47 years. Speaker on Wednesday is Maria Glenn. Refreshments will be served after each service.

Tuesday

Centenary United Methodist Women will meet at 6:30 p.m. for a combined meeting and dinner at Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Church.

Wednesday

Zion United Methodist Women will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the education building. The Rev. Ann Mowery will lead the program, which includes installation of new officers. JoAnn Kasten and Sue Marshall will serve as hostesses.
