Lithuanian student at Pocahontas festival

A Lithuanian student will speak at a mission festival at 10 a.m. Sunday in Pocahontas.

Saida Tinginyte, 27, will be the featured speaker during the missions service at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. She is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lithuania and is studying toward a master's degree in theology.

In Lithuania, Tinginyte was a student in classes taught by the Rev. Frederick Schmucker, who was working as a mission volunteer in the Lutheran church ELCA at the time. He is now interim pastor at St. John's.

Fall rally for mission league set Tuesday

The Cape Girardeau zone of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League will meet Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the rally opens at 8:30. The event will end by noon with a luncheon.

The theme is "Marked with his love." Speakers include the Rev. Wayne J. Knolhoff, mission and ministry facilitator for the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

Other speakers in the program include Jennifer Huecker, Missouri district president for the women's missionary league, and Theresa Wehmeyer, who will present a mission grant of $10,000 to the Rev. David Dissen on behalf of the Lutheran Chapel of Hope on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.

Revival services coming to Perkins

The Rev. David Griesemer will speak during revival services that begin Sunday at Perkins Baptist Church in Perkins, Mo.

The services are at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. The church will hold a potluck dinner at 5:30 p.m.

Weeknight services are at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

Fund-raising banquet planned for Young Life

Young Life, a youth outreach organization in Cape Girardeau and Jackson, will hold its annual fund-raising banquet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cape Bible Chapel.

Refreshments will be served and child care is provided.

Conference on prayer features Californians

Father's Arms Fellowship in Scott City will hold a weekend conference on prayer and the Holy Spirit Oct. 20-23 at the church.

The speakers will be Dr. Charles and Mary Ann Flynn of Orange, Calif. The Flynns will speak at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Oct. 20 and then weekdays at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Fall festival planned at Lynwood Baptist

Lynwood Baptist Church will host its annual Fall Family Festival from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Osage Community Centre in Cape Girardeau.

The event is a Christian alternative to Halloween and is open to all children from preschool to sixth grade. Participants can enjoy games, refreshments and door prizes. Admission is a canned food item to be used by a local church food pantry.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. No scary costumes will be allowed.

Church to hold satellite seminar on Bible veracity

Do you want to know more about the accuracy of the Bible? Are you trying to find answers to religious questions?

Anyone with questions about the Bible is invited to attend an interactive satellite seminar Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fruitland Community Church in Fruitland.

The seminar is led by Hank Hanegraff, president of the Christian Research Institute International and Lee Strobel, a former journalist who is now a pastor at Saddleback Church outside Chicago.

The two will talk about the research that led them to examine the Bible as evidence of science and history. For more information, call the church at 204-0724.

Soaring Spirit performs at Egypt Mills church

Soaring Spirit ministries will lead in worship during services Oct. 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills, Mo. The group will sing selections from its CD "Take Me Back" and will talk about its prison minstry. The worship service is at 10 a.m.

Rally planned for Falwell crusade volunteers

Anyone interested in volunteering for the upcoming "Hope for the Heartland" crusade Oct. 20-25 at the Show Me Center can attend a pre-crusade rally at 7 p.m. Monday at Red Star Baptist Church.

The Rev. Jerry Falwell is the keynote speaker for the crusade.

A similar event was held in Cape Girardeau in April.

The rally will include prayer and praise music, as well as some training sessions for anyone interested in serving as a counselor during the event.
