La Croix UMC selected for Lilly Endowment

La Croix United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau is among 124 congregations in the United States selected for the Lilly Endowment's 2005 National Clergy Renewal Program. Congregations are awarded up to $45,000 to send their pastor on a sabbatical designed by the congregation and pastor. The Rev. Ronald L. Watts of La Croix received the maximum grant amount.

Westminster Presbyterian holds quilt show Oct. 8

Westminster Presbyterian Church will hold a quilt show Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show will feature an award-winning artist and local heirloom quilts. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted for Westminster's youth mission trip in 2006.

Emanuel United Church plans bazaar for Oct. 15

Emanuel United Church of Christ at 304 E. Adams St. in Jackson will hold a bazaar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 15. The event will feature crafts, baked goods, produce and canned items. Coffee and sweets will be served from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. For more information, call 243-4654.

Judgement House at Shawnee college Oct. 8

Shawnee Community College will hold a Judgement House event Oct. 8 and 9 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the college. This year's script is titled "Abducted" and is about the kidnapping of two middle-school girls. The event is sponsored by Southern Illinois Christian Alliance.
