Southeast Missouri Hospital will be the site for the Feb. 3 First Tuesday Noon Prayer service. The informal gathering begins at noon and will be held in the Harrison Room near the main lobby.

Church changes name to Wesleyan Cornerstone

The Wesleyan congregation in Scott City has adopted a name change, which took effect recently. The church has become Cornerstone Wesleyan Church. Pastor Joe Hudson said the name stems from Scripture, where Jesus said he'd build his church on the cornerstone. The congregation considered several different options for its name before choosing Cornerstone.

New youth program begins at New Life Gospel

New Life Gospel Center in Scott City is beginning a new program for youths and children. The Team Jesus Youth for Christ will meet at 7 p.m. each Thursday. Another, similiar program is for children age 12 and younger. A children's church will be held each Sunday at 11 a.m. For more information, phone 265-4254.

Local youth to participate in Souper Bowl for Caring

Several area churches will participate in the 2004 Souper Bowl for Caring activities planned for Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. During the service blitz Jan. 31, youths are encouraged to volunteer in a charity in their community. And on Super Bowl Sunday, area churches will take up special collections in soup pots for local charities. The Souper Bowl of Caring is a faith-based crusade against hunger that began in 1990 in South Carolina. It has been observed in every state as well as Canada, Germany, the Netherlands and Puerto Rico.
