New youth pastor at Cape Bible Chapel
Chad Hughes is the new youth pastor for Cape Bible Chapel. He has served in youth ministry for eight years, primarily around Dallas. He holds a degree in music composition and has studied at Criswell Bible College in Dallas.
Hughes will oversee the junior and senior high programs at the church, including Bible classes for youth on Sunday mornings.
A new program "441" will begin this Sunday at 7 p.m. and includes, games, songs and teaching. A similar program, "Heirborne," is for seventh- and eighth-grade students and will begin Wednesday evening. Senior high students will meet in homes in "disciples of Christ" groups.
Hughes and his wife, Kim, are from Waco, Texas, and have two children.

Exodus out of Egypt seminar scheduled
An Exodus out of Egypt orientation seminar from the Weigh Down Workshops will be held at 4 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Cape Girardeau.
The seminar is a Christian program that teaches Bible-based weight loss. There are no special foods, pills or exercise routines. It is a 12-week course that includes video instruction. Each participant will receive audiocassette lessons and a workbook. For information, call Karen Tanner at 335-1986.
New sermon series begins at La Croix Church
La Croix Church is in the midst of a sermon series that answers some of the hard questions of life: "Why is there evil?" and "Is the end near?" The series will present a Christian perspective on the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and national tragedy. Topics -- Holy War: does vengeance work?; Is war ever justified?; What is Islam?; Is the end near?; How do we conquer fear?; Will God bless America?
Services are at 5:30 p.m. each Saturday and mornings at 8:15, 9:30 and 10:50 each Sunday.

Roe vs. Wade service scheduled for Jan. 20
A special prayer service is planned for 2 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Cemetery of the Innocents in observance of Roe vs. Wade, which gave women the legal right to abortions. The Rev. John J. Leibrecht, bishop of the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Roman Catholic Diocese, will lead the service. A reception will follow at Drury Inn Suites. In the case of inclement weather, the service will be at the Drury Inn Suites. The event is sponsored by the Voice for Life and SEMO Lifesavers.
A bus trip to Washington, D.C., also is being organized for a march at the capital. The bus will leave at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 21 from Cape Girardeau and return Jan. 23. Cost is $110 per person. For information, call Kathleen Keesee at 334-7298.
New youth pastor at Freedom Rock
Freedom Rock youth church at First Assembly of God Church has a new pastor. Bryan King begins his ministry this week.
He is a graduate of Southwestern University. His wife, Suzanne, is a registered nurse.
Freedom Rock is a youth ministry program of First Assembly that involves youth from seventh grade through college. The building at Kingshighway and Broadway is open from 6-9:45 p.m. each Wednesday and from 7-11:45 p.m. on Fridays.
