Region's MoDOT engineer switches to job at university

Southeast Missouri State University will have a new director of facilities management starting May 1. Scott Meyer, currently district engineer with the Missouri Department of Transportation's Sikeston office, will be taking over the position.

Meyer is replacing Al Stoverink, who resigned in September to work for Arkansas State University.

Meyer has 22 years of engineering experience he says will help him in his new capacity.

"I'll be doing a lot of the same things I did with MoDOT," Meyer said. "I'll be working with people, and I have the belief in people that when they're given a challenge they will use that to do good things."

Dr. Dennis Holt, vice president for administration and enrollment management at Southeast, said Meyer's experience made him a natural selection.

"Scott has many strengths," Holt said. "He had a wide range of responsibility with MoDOT. He had to oversee large projects over a large geographical region. He will bring in knowledge of the community and the region, which will allow us to do work in the community."

Meyer will have several responsibilities in directing the facilities management department. He'll oversee operation of the university's coal-fired power plant, maintain fleet services, manage mail services, coordinate maintenance on campus and supervise all building projects.

Prior to taking this new position, Meyer was MoDOT's district engineer in Southeast Missouri for nine years. He was in charge of a 14-county area.

He said he was taking the new position for a change of scenery.

"It will be a new challenge for me as an engineer and new opportunity to use my skills in a new way," Meyer said.
