POPLAR BLUFF - The 1992 Mid-South Regional Senior Olympics will be held May 12-16 in Poplar Bluff.
The annual event is an opportunity for adults 55 and over to compete in a wide variety of games and activities. The purpose of the Senior Olympics is to encourage participation; promote fellowship, fitness and health; and establish games for measuring excellence in athletic performance for older adults.
There will be age divisions for both men and women.
More than 40 events will be offered, including swimming, cycling, golf, volleyball, bowling, horseshoes and a wide range of track and field events.
For those a little less active, or just wanting to have fun, this year's regional Senior Olympics will also have bridge, shuffleboard, spin casting, washer pitching, frisbee throw and fun walks.
For the creative person, there will be art, needlework, ceramics and woodworking.
Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded in each category to first-, second- and third-place winners.
A $10 registration fee will provide the applicant with participation, a tee shirt, admission to the opening ceremonies, a social mixer and a fish fry and bingo.
This year's Mid-South Senior Olympics will be a qualifying site for individuals who want to compete in the 1993 National Senior Games in Baton Rouge, La.
