Senior high school students from Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois will have their artwork showcased in a special exhibition at the Southeast Missouri State University Museum gallery during the month of February.
The exhibition will open with a reception and awards presentation on Sunday. The event is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Awards will be presented for "Best in Show," first, second, third, and honorable mention. Refreshments will be served, and live music will be provided by classical guitar musician Jerry Richardson, assistant professor of music at Southeast.
Art teachers at area high schools chose the art work -- produced by students during the past academic year -- to compete for inclusion in the exhibition. The exhibit will consist of a variety of art media including paintings, drawings, photographs, sculpture, fibers and ceramics.
Lynn Smith, president of Arkansas Art Education Association and an art teacher at Northside High School in Fort Smith, Ark., has been invited to jury the student exhibition. Smith will select the pieces for the exhibition and those to receive awards.
The exhibition will continue through Feb. 25.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. Group tours may be arranged by calling (314) 651-2260. The University Museum is located in Memorial Hall. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
