Cape man leading state career, tech group

Dean Whitlow, assistant director of the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center, has been chosen to serve as president of the Missouri Council of Career and Technical Administrators for the 2004-2005 school year. From 2000 through 2002 Whitlow was secretary and then president of the group's Southeast Region. He was then elected vice president of the statewide organization. As president, Whitlow oversees professional development planning and interacts with staff from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to meet the needs of career and technology schools across the state. Whitlow also presides over business meetings of the organization and speaks with elected state officials as a proponent of career and technology education.

GED ceremony in Cape to be held Oct. 14

The Cape Girardeau Adult Learning Center will hold its annual fall GED graduation ceremony at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center. Director Nancy Branson said more than 100 students will receive their diplomas at the ceremony. Branson asked any graduates who did not receive invitations to contact her at 334-3669.

Perryville man hurt when vehicle runs off road

A Perryville, Mo., man was seriously injured Thursday on U.S. 61 four miles south of Old Appleton, Mo. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Mark Weibrecht, 42, was northbound in a 1994 Chevrolet at 2:57 p.m. when he ran off the right side of the road, struck a culvert, overturned several times and was ejected. He was taken to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Work to cause delays on Illinois Highway 3

WARE, Ill. -- Lane reductions and intermittent delays are expected on Illinois Highway 3 from Highway 146 south to north of Ware, Ill., beginning Monday. According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, 11 miles of patching, resurfacing and a bridge replacement will begin that day. Flagmen will control traffic during lane reductions.
