Funeral services planned for Southeast alumnus

ST. LOUIS -- The visitation and funeral have been tentatively set for U.S. Army 1st Lt. Daniel Riordan of St. Louis, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Riordan, who graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 2005 after completing the Air Force ROTC program, was killed by a roadside bomb Saturday in Taji, Iraq. Visitation is tentatively set for 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road in St. Louis, the Post-Dispatch reported. The funeral is tentatively set for Saturday, but the Post-Dispatch gave no time for the service. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, 9740 Sappington Road in South County, with burial to follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Members of the local chapter of the Patriot Guard Riders motorcycle group plan to attend the funeral and take part in the procession, leaving from Biehle at 6:30 a.m. Saturday. Members of the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Public Safety and Air Force ROTC will also attend the funeral.

Democratic rally will be Saturday in Dexter

The Southeast Missouri Democratic Rally will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Elks Club in Dexter, Mo. The annual rally brings together Democrats from the 8th Congressional District. It will include a buffet dinner and a keynote speaker. Tickets are available by calling Brenda Woemmel at 334-5147. The keynote speaker is nationally known radio commentator, writer and public speaker Jim Hightower.
