Sex offender gets 10 days for not registering

Another of nine men wanted for failing to register as sex offenders in December has been sentenced for his crime. Norman Copeland, 27, of Jackson was sentenced Tuesday to 10 days in Cape Girardeau County Jail, said Cape Girardeau County prosecutor Morley Swingle. Copeland can serve his time on weekends, Swingle said. Copeland originally had a jury trial date of March 16, but pleaded guilty March 5. He is convicted of second-degree statutory rape. Copeland, along with eight others had been sought in December for failure to register as sex offenders in a crackdown Swingle said was designed to let convicted sex offenders know that Cape Girardeau meant business when it came to registration. At the time Swingle said there was no excuse for offenders' failure to register, and he would seek jail time on each offender.

March 21 court date set for former reporter

Former KFVS television reporter Tiffany N. Sisson will appear in Scott County court March 21 for a case review. Sisson, 34, of Oran, Mo., has been charged with stealing more than $20,000 between March 1, 2006, and Nov. 20 while she was the guardian/conservator of an estate. She was arrested Feb. 26 and released on a $20,000 bond. If convicted of the felony stealing charge, Sisson could spend up to seven years in prison. She is accused of appropriating more than $20,000 from the estate, according to a complaint filed by Scott County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Boyd. Sisson spent the money on trips out of state and other expenses, the complaint said. Sisson has said she is not guilty of the charges against her.
