Kennett students debut at Carnegie Hall

KENNETT, Mo. -- Nineteen Kennett High School students and one Senath-Hornersville student can now say they have performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The group was invited to join a combined choir that consisted of students from Arkansas State University, Harding Academy (Searcy, Ark.), Harrisburg High School (Harrisburg, Ark.) and Piscataway High School (Piscataway, N.J.). The choir performed "Lux aeterna," a Morten Lauridsen selection, in the Issac Stern Auditorium (one of three stages in the hall) under the baton of Dr. Dale Miller, Director of Choral Activities and chair of the Department of Music at Arkansas State University. The New England Symphony Orchestra accompanied the choir.

Entertainment set for Bootheel rodeo

SIKESTON, Mo -- The Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo will feature some of country music's leading entertainers and others who are working to become familiar names on the music charts. Joe Nichols will sing and the group Emerson Drive will perform on Aug. 11. Blake Shelton is the featured entertainer for Aug. 12, while Chris Cagle will make a return appearance on Aug. 13. Rounding out the rodeo's entertainment line-up is Phil Vasser. Tickets for the Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo will be available today through Saturday at the rodeo grounds.
