Cape woman gets probation for stabbing
A 26-year-old Cape Girardeau woman who stabbed her boyfriend was ordered a five-year supervised probation Feb. 22. Beverly D. Haley, of 617 Boxwood Court., Apt. 4, pleaded guilty to second-degree domestic assault. Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney Morley Swingle said despite lack of testimony from the victim, who could not be located, he was able to produce sufficient evidence of Haley's guilt. According to the probable-cause statement, police officers responded to a domestic dispute call during which Haley allegedly told police she attacked her boyfriend after he hit her in the back of the head. Swingle said police found the knife in the back yard. He said it was bent from the impact of hitting the victim's collarbone. "The wound did turn out to be not a serious condition" because it hit the collarbone, Swingle said.
