A Dexter, Missouri, woman sustained serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene of a wreck three miles west of Dexter shortly before 6 p.m. Monday. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Aaron K. Menley, 37, was driving east on the highway when she struck a cotton module in the rear, trapping her for a time in the 2014 GMC Yukon she was driving. The 2007 Peterbilt cotton module truck had pulled onto the highway from County Road 657 and also was going east. It was driven by David L. Miller, 64, of Essex, Missouri. The module had no operable rear lights, according to highway patrol. The front of the Yukon was buried under the module, and Dexter's extrication team was called to free the driver. Menley, who was equipped with a seat belt at the time of the accident, was airlifted to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Her injuries were deemed by the patrol to be serious. Miller was uninjured.
Robert Tyler Kolwyck faces charges for his alleged involvement in a Sunday shooting that wounded another man. The 19-year-old was charged Monday with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. About noon Sunday, an 18-year-old called 911, saying he was shot by a friend at his home, according to Capt. Jim McMillen, public information officer for the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. Police and emergency personnel went to the 1500 block of East Kathleen Street, and the victim was flown to a trauma center. Kolwyck eventually was arrested for the shooting, McMillen said. "The two were alone at the home when the shooting took place. An altercation broke out and led to the shooting, leaving the victim with two to three gunshot wounds," McMillen said.
