A proposal to toughen the Southeast Missouri State University admissions policy will be on the Board of Regents agenda Wednesday, along with proposed increases in room and board rates for the 1992-93 academic year.
The board will convene at 10:30 a.m. in the University Center Party Room. The meeting is open to the public.
Under the proposed admissions policy change, one additional high school mathematics unit plus a high school unit in the visual or performing arts would be required for admission to Southeast effective in 1995.
The number of electives would be reduced from the present four units to three units, and the proposed policy includes a "strong recommendation" that two units of foreign language or additional units of science be taken as electives by university-bound high school students.
The current admission standard, which calls for two units of high school mathematics, was adopted at Southeast in 1986 for full implementation in 1990.
The board will consider a proposal to increase the basic 15-meal plan room and board rate for university residence halls from the current $2,745 to $2,965 beginning in the fall.
A proposed name change for the Department of Earth Science and recommendations for a reorganization of the Division of Student Affairs are the other major open agenda items.
A vote to go into closed session for appropriate considerations is the final item of business.
