"Heroes for the American Red Cross," a grassroots campaign to support Red Cross services, recently celebrated reaching a total of $13,616.21 in funds raised for vital services needed in the community. A celebration sponsored by "Hero" Phil Brinson was held at Buckner Brewing Co. to honor this year's heroes. All money raised supports Southeast Missouri residents.
"Heroes" invites local business people, civic clubs and individuals to pledge to raise $1,000 through any legal and ethical means they choose for the local Red Cross chapter.
Awards for the highest level of fund-raising achievement were given to Cape Girardeau Naval Reserve Center, Tina Bles, the River Radio Morning Shows and Morning News Watch on News Radio 960 KZIM. These heroes exceeded their $1,000 goal.
The farthest-reaching campaign involvement award was given to Tina Bles who contacted friends, family and the Notre Dame Class of 1974 for support, receiving donations from across the country.
The most creative campaign tactics award was received by the River Radio Morning Shows for implementing a variety of creative fund raisers.
The Junior American Red Cross received the highest level of campaign involvement award for soliciting prizes from area businesses and selling raffle tickets.
The campaign go-getter award was presented to John Halter for going above and beyond throughout the campaign.
Phase two of the Heroes campaign was announced by Amanda Lincoln, American Red Cross development specialist. Titled "Emerging Heroes," the campaign implements the same concept with a focus on youths to get involved in the community. For more information, call Lincoln at 335-9471.
