ALEXANDER COUNTY, Ill. -- One person was killed Wednesday in a head-on collision involving an American Red Cross truck and a semi on Highway 3 just south of the Union-Alexander county line, according to The Southern Illinoisan. Illinois State Police and local authorities responded to the accident just after 3 p.m. Wednesday. The highway was to be closed for several hours, authorities said. Authorities confirm at least one person in the Red Cross vehicle was killed in the accident. Two others were injured and were taken to a hospital in Cape Girardeau. A third vehicle appears to have been involved in the collision but no one was reported injured in that vehicle, authorities said.
