The leading cause of childhood deaths in the United States is injuries. To help reduce the number of childhood injuries, the Cape County Chapter of the American Red Cross recently received funding from the YELL for Newspapers program to purchase safety training materials.

The Red Cross will begin training teachers free of charge so they can implement the materials in their classrooms.

With the funding, the Red Cross was able to purchase 15 first aid manuals and three elementary first aid program kits. Lifesaving techniques such as CPR and first aid can be taught using these supplies.

Schools and youth organizations may contact the Red Cross office at 335-9471 to begin training.
