Openings in the armed forces emergency services are for after-hours caseworkers, who process all military emergency communication during the hours that the local chapter is not open.

For every paid staff member, there are at least 50 volunteers providing direct services to the public. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the American Red Cross, officials stressed.

All training for volunteers is free. Interested individuals should contact Ron MacCubbin, director of emergency services at the Southeast Missouri Chapter, at (573) 335-9471 or stop by the chapter at 2430 Myra Drive in Cape Girardeau.
