The two drivers injured in a car crash Monday in uptown Jackson remain hospitalized.
William C. Hoover, a former Southeast Missouri State University professor, suffered two broken arms in the accident on Main Street near the Ohio Street intersection, according to his friend Linda Sanders.
She said she was called to the scene of Monday's accident to get Hoover's personal belongings and has been helping care for him during his hospital stay.
Hoover, 82, was driving a red Toyota Camry and Ruby Bock, 97, was driving a white Mercury Tracer when the two cars collided Monday afternoon on Main Street, just west of Ohio Street. Both drivers were taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center. The cars had to be towed from the scene.
On Wednesday, Bock's son, Larry Bock, said his mother had undergone surgery and faced a long recovery. He was not available Thursday to talk about specifics.
Sanders said she is helping care for Hoover, whose broken arms prevent him from feeding himself. Hoover is professor emeritus of educational administration and counseling at Southeast. Sanders said she went to the Jackson Police Department but was unable to get a police report because the investigation was still underway.
Jackson police have said the investigation would not be complete for five to seven days after the accident.
