Teachers and schools that want to become models for the Reading Renaissance program have to meet four requirements.

Requirements for model classrooms

The median of points earned on a diagnostic/at-risk report must equal at least 80 percent of the expected point value earned. The diagnostic/at-risk report is a documentation of each child's performance.

The average percentage correct on the diagnostic/at-risk report must be between 85 and 92 percent. If students are continually making 100 percent on their work, they are likely reading below their level.

Less than 10 percent of students in the class can be at risk according to the diagnostic/at-risk report.

A majority of the techniques on the model classroom checklist must be used.

Requirements for model schools

Students' average points earned per week must equal at least 75 percent of the goal listed on the students' average reading level.

Only 15 percent of the students can be considered at-risk.

100 percent of the students must be using the Accelerated Reader computer program and Reading Renaissance and 35 percent or five teachers, whichever is greater, in the school must have achieved model classroom certification.

The school should be using a majority of the techniques listed on a model classroom checklist.
