The books were provided by the Martin Luther King Jr. State Celebration Commission and include cultural diverse themes.

The read-a-thon brings Southeast Missouri State University students, faculty and volunteers into kindergarten through fourth grade classrooms to present multicultural readings and activities to children during Black History Month. Readings consist of literature on diverse historical Americans and their contributions to the development of the nation.
