Raymond E. Busby, 98, of Marble Hill died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 30, 1925, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, to Daniel Mac Homer and Cora Marie Woodard Busby.

After retiring from Cook's Supermarket as a supervisor, he moved to Scopus.

Raymond was a Jack of all trades. He was a skilled handyman, building his own family home in Cahokia, Illinois. He enjoyed gardening, farming and raising hogs and cattle. He was often seen with his partner in crime, Buffy the dog, whom he took everywhere and with whom he is now reunited.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheron Boyle of Warrenton and Connie (Darryl) Rhodes of Glen Allen; four sons, Gary (Cheryl) Busby of Columbia, Illinois, Donald (Kay) Busby of Cahokia, Gaylon (Lisa) Busby of Waterloo, Illinois, and Clarence (Chasity) Busby of Joplin; brother, Wayne; sister, Geneva; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Berta L. Ragsdale Busby; third wife, Mary Belle Curtis Busby; son, Stanley Busby; daughter-in-law, Michelle Busby; son-in-law, James Boyle; three brothers, James, Norman and Homer; two sisters, Ruth and Maxine; and two great-grandchildren, Austin Archer and Trinity Boyle.

Visitation was held Saturday, Jan. 6, at Ford and Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill. It was followed by the funeral service, with the Rev. Nathan Huffman officiating.

Burial was in Cook Cemetery in Scopus.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
