PERRYVILLE -- Perry County Middle School's A-OK Club created a "happy book" this week for cancer patients at the Perryville hospital. About 60 students in grades 5-8 are members of the club. They drew "happy" pictures, which were then put into a large binder that will be kept at Perry County Memorial Hospital. The students also drew pictures and wrote "happy" thoughts in small autograph books that were distributed to cancer patients...

PERRYVILLE -- Perry County Middle School's A-OK Club created a "happy book" this week for cancer patients at the Perryville hospital.

About 60 students in grades 5-8 are members of the club. They drew "happy" pictures, which were then put into a large binder that will be kept at Perry County Memorial Hospital. The students also drew pictures and wrote "happy" thoughts in small autograph books that were distributed to cancer patients.

Candy Mueller, fifth grade teacher, at the middle school came up with the idea. Her mother is battling cancer and receiving treatment at a Cape Girardeau hospital.

This is just one of the club's projects. Each club member has to perform at least one act of kindness each week.

"You don't need a season or a reason," she said.
