Many Streets in Cape Girardeau and Jackson were running with water Friday night after more than 3 inches of rain drenched parts of Cape Girardeau County.

The Jackson Police Department reported at 9:30 p.m. that some streets in Jackson were impassible because of water from the heavy downpours.

In Cape Girardeau, some streets were flooded and police received reports of vehicles stalled in water at a number of locations. Water was over portions of Perryville Road, Main, Good Hope and Melrose. A small mobile home park near Hopper Road and Kingshighway was being evacuated by 10 p.m.

Flooding was heaving in the vicinity of Jackson City Park, through which a creek flows.

The list of Jackson streets included Union Street and Highway 72, Royal Drive, the 1300 block of east Main Street, Main Street and Tracy Street, Main Street and Union Street, the 200 through 400 blocks of South Shawnee, Patty Lane, Old Cape Road, Sunset Hills, Spring View and Oak Street, the 1600 block of Rosebud Drive and the City Park.

The Scheper shopping area also was flooded.

Initial reports from the Jackson Fire Department put rainfall totals at Jackson at 3 1/2 inches.

In Cape Girardeau, more than 2 inches had fallen by 10 p.m.
