Classes are canceled today in three buildings on the Southeast Missouri State University campus because of electrical and HVAC outages, according to a news release.

Classes scheduled in Crisp Hall, the Art Building and Carnahan Hall will not be held today.

Also, Southeast faculty and staff employed in Crisp Hall, the Art Building, Brandt Hall of Music, Carnahan Hall and Parker Hall should not report to work today, the release said.

Storms and heavy rain that Monday moved through Cape Girardeau are thought to be responsible for the outages, according to the release.

Runoff from heavy rainfall Monday caused issues on roads in Cape Girardeau, Scott City and surrounding areas.

The National Weather Service in Paducah, Ky., issued a flash flood warning for Cape Girardeau and Scott County.

Area police responded to residents trapped in a car at North Spring and Bessie streets and a car stuck at Broadview Street and Bloomfield Road. Water was reported over the road at Silver Springs Road and Themis Street. They also responded to a car submerged at Kingshighway and Bloomfield Road, across from Huck's convenience store. A power line was reported down in water on Independence Street between Kingshighway and Mount Auburn.

Assistant city clerk Starla Miller at Scott City city hall said Main, Third and Maple streets had high water.

Chaffee Public Works employees were called to several locations for reports of limbs down, including one that took out a power line behind city hall.

Chaffee Public works employee Travis Hendrix had a tree fall through his house on Ponderosa Street. According to several sources, the house sustained major damage.

Ameren Missouri reported Monday night one customer without power in Scott County, down from almost 650 Monday afternoon.
