Whitewater rafting enthusiasts will have an opportunity to raft and canoe down the North Carolina and Tennessee rivers this spring in a "Wet and Well" week expedition.
The trip is sponsored by the health and leisure studies department at Southeast Missouri State University and the Fitness and Wellness Center at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
It is scheduled for May 24-30, said Edward Leoni, chairman of Southeast's department of health and leisure studies and one of the expedition leaders.
Participants will begin their whitewater excursion with a two-day raft trip on the French Broad River near Hot Springs, N.C. A country home near the river will serve as a base camp. Afterward, the group will raft for two days down the Nolachucky River in Tennessee.
Relaxation techniques and wellness principles will be incorporated into the week-long trip, Leoni said.
Rafting experience is not required; guides will instruct participants in basic skills. In addition, Leoni and Mike Stone of Southeast's health and leisure studies department will teach basic canoeing, rock climbing and team building skills on the first day.
The cost is $425 and includes transportation, food, lodging, raft fees and guide service. To register, call 651-2197.
