AVA, Ill. Southern Illinois Radio Station WXAN, 103.9 FM, has been named the number one Southern Gospel station in the U.S. by the Southern Gospel Music Guild.
"This award is a credit to the entire WXAN staff," said Doug Apple, general manager of the station.
The award, presented during the recent National Quartet Convention in Nashville, Tenn., is based on music selection, rotation, community service, on-air sound and overall station operation.
The station observed its 10th anniversary earlier this month.
It finished second in the competition in 1990.
