Selecting a commencement speaker for Notre Dame and Cape Girardeau Central high schools was almost as easy as tuning in a radio station. Both schools invited a radio personality to be commencement speakers Friday.

The Rev. Harry Schlitt, a California radio-show host, will speak to the 1996 graduating class at Notre Dame High School. Commencement begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the school gymnasium.

Schlitt hosts a radio program called "Love on the Rock" for Armed Forces Radio Network and "Love on the Rock II," which is a national weekly program. "Father Harry," another program Schlitt hosts, is a series of 60-second spots produced for ABC/Capital Cities Radio Network. In all, he has produced 10 different radio programs and about 10 special films.

Schlitt is the pastor of St. Gabriel Parish in San Francisco and is stewardship director for the archdiocese in San Francisco. He is a former counselor at Springfield Catholic High School in Springfield and associate pastor at St. Agnes Cathedral in Springfield.

Conservative talk-show host Rush Limbaugh III will speak to students at Cape Girardeau Central High School. Commencement begins at 8 p.m. at the Show Me Center.

This is the third time Limbaugh has been a speaker at Central graduation ceremonies. He spoke to the classes of 1989 and 1992.

Limbaugh, a Cape Girardeau native, attended Central High School and graduated in 1969. His show can be heard locally on KZIM radio.
