RADIO INFORMATION SERVICE

The Radio Information Service provides a source of information ranging from current events to novels for persons who are blind or disabled.

The agency provides radio receivers to eligible people. Information from newspapers and magazines, for example, is read and broadcast over a special radio frequency.

The service began and is headquartered in Southern Illinois, and recently began providing service in Cape Girardeau. The Radio Information Service hopes to add a repeater station this coming year, which will allow them to strengthen the broadcast signal.
