ORAN -- Election races are heating up in this Scott County town of 1,164. Three of the city races to be decided in April are contested. ORAN -- Election races are heating up in this Scott County town of 1,164. Three of the city races to be decided in April are contested.

Three men have filed for mayor; two for alderman in ward 4 and ward 2, and two women are running for city collector. There are also two uncontested races for aldermanic seats.

The deadline for filing was 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Louie Hirschowitz, Bob Dennis and Tom Urhahn filed for mayor. Hirschowitz is an incumbent. In the city's fourth ward, voters will decide between James Eftink and Walter Madigan for office. In ward 2, voters will choose between Leroy Eftink and Jim Tyler.

Other candidates for alderman are Jean Neal and Ronnie Diebold.

Marcia Roslen and Nena Glastetter both filed for city collector.

Two Scott City residents will face off in the mayoral election in April. Jerry Cummins and Rodney Holloway filed as candidates.

Holloway was defeated in the 1992 mayoral race and ran against LaDonna Phelps in the ward 1 race.

In Chaffee, the school board race has a full slate of candidates.

Seven people filed for office but only three seats are open on the school board.

The candidates include former superintendent, Wayne C. Presley, and only one incumbent, Randy Dooley. Other candidates are Alvin Vandeven, Bill McFerron, Candi Witcher, Kelley Stafford-Petitt and Kathy Kinsey.

In Benton, four people filed for three seats on the Kelly school board. Candidates include incumbent Cindy Bollinger, Sonny Scheffer, David Felter and Teresa DeWitt. DeWitt is president of the school's Parent Teacher Organization.
