The Cape Girardeau Road Runners and the Southeast Missourian are sponsoring a one mile run/walk Nov. 29, just prior to the start of the annual Parade of Lights. The run benefits Toybox.

The run starts at 4:55 p.m., five minutes before the start of the parade, and follows the parade route from Capaha Park to Main Street. Adults, children, families and student groups may run or walk the race.

Hundreds of parade watchers will have the opportunity to cheer for racers. "This will be the biggest crowd lining the entire race course that runners can experience in our area," said Terry McDowell, Cape Road Runner.

Awards will be presented immediately following the race. "All finishers will receive a safety runner ID shoe tag provided by Cross Point Animal Hospital," said McDowell. "We will provide delivery of running gear to the race finish too, so all runners can stay and enjoy the parade."Awards will be given to overall male and female winners and first place male and female in the following age groups: 6 to 8 years, 9 to 11 years, 12 to 14 years, 15 to 19 years, 20 to 29 years, 40 to 49 years, 50 to 59 years and 60 years or older. Runners and walkers compete together in the same race divisions.

All proceeds go to Toybox, which provides toys for needy children at Christmas. A new toy or $5 is the entry fee.

Registration will be from 4 to 4:45 p.m. at the race start, Broadway at West End Boulevard. For more information or an entry form, call Kim McDowell at (800) 879-1210, ext. 101.
