JACKSON -- The auxiliary of the Lutheran Family and Children's Service of Southeast Missouri will sponsor the SEMO Quilt Show on Saturday, Sept. 7. The show will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church gymnasium, 223 W. Adams, in Jackson.
The quilt show will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will feature various types of quilts on loan from quilters throughout Southeast Missouri. Show attendees will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite quilt.
Nancy Stiegemeyer, with the auxiliary, said organizers are expecting more than 100 quilts to be displayed.
"We don't have a lot of quilt shows locally, so this is a chance for area artists and crafters to display their handiwork," she said.
Chairman of the quilt show committee for the auxiliary is Tilley Luckey of Frohna.
A special feature of the show will be lectures and demonstrations by notable quilters Laura Crews Lewis and Nancy Pleimann, and an ongoing demonstration of strip quilting by Oleen Saffel.
At 11 a.m., Pleimann, a specialist in appliques quilting and owner of Uniquely Sew quilt shop, will demonstrate four different methods of hand appliques. She will answer questions about both hand and machine appliques.
At 2 p.m., Lewis, who has won international awards for her quilts will talk with quilters and answer questions. She will also display nine of her quilts.
"There should be something of interest there for anyone who's interested in quilting," Stiegemeyer said.
Admission to the show is $1.50 per person.
