In a busy month for development plans in Cape Girardeau, the city's Planning and Zoning Commission Wednesday recommended approval of four subdivision plats and three zoning items.
The first zoning item was a request by the Free Will Baptist Church for a special use permit for a church addition and sign at 2919 Kage Rd.
According to the church's permit application, the addition would house an educational facility.
"We believe that this new educational facility will enhance our ministry in and to the people of Cape Girardeau," church officials said. "We have an urgent need for the building... We have reached capacity in our present classrooms."
The preliminary floor plan for the facility includes a kitchen and dining area, restrooms, 13 classrooms and a gymnasium/activity center.
In other action, the commission recommended approval of:
20A request by G. Keith Deimund to rezone a lot in Mt. Auburn Subdivision No. 4 from commercial to two-family residential. Deimund plans to develop the tract as a duplex similar to duplexes adjacent to the site. The subdivision is situated just west of Mt. Auburn Road off Keystone Drive.
A request by Heisler Development Co. for a special use permit to erect a 250-foot tower on a tract of land in the 1600 block of North Kingshighway.
The preliminary plat for Crites Eight Subdivision, north of Themis Street and east of Westfield Subdivision in the city's west end.
20Deimund's preliminary and record plat for the Mt. Auburn subdivision south of Keystone.
The record plat for Foundation Park subdivision, a commercial tract south of Gerhardt Street that's being developed by the Southeast Missouri State University Foundation.
The record plat for Cape West Sixth Subdivision at the northeast corner of Siemers Drive, north of the Bluff City Beer building.
