A 9-foot Burmese python snake was reported stolen from the G and S Pet Paradise pet store at 2000 William St. at about 10:40 a.m. Thursday.

Cape Girardeau Sgt. Barry Hovis said the thief or thieves broke into a window at the back of the store to gain access and also stole a snake pole and an undisclosed amount of cash from the store.

There are no suspects as of Thursday afternoon, Hovis said.

Hovis said the snake could be kept as a pet by the thief or sold to someone else.

"We don't normally get many calls for stolen Burmese pythons," he said.
