Guest authors at the two-day event were Ivy Ruckman and Robert Burch. Jerry Warshaw was guest illustrator.

"The event is designed to inspire students to read, to think, to ask questions of the authors," said Holyfield. "Some youngsters may even want to become authors."

Sponsors for the festival included the university's College of Education; Burger King; Southeast Missouri Council on The Arts; Southeast Missouri Council of the International Reading Association; NPS Inc.; Procter and Gamble; Saueressig Co., and M&W Packaging, U.S. Inc.
