Input into the future of Missouri transportation is the focus of a public meeting that will be held in Cape Girardeau Oct. 8.
The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at Drury Lodge in Cape Girardeau. The meeting had been scheduled, then postponed, on a previous date.
Wayne Muri, transportation department chief engineer, said he hopes citizens and groups will comment on transportation trends, the direction the department should take and other areas they feel should be emphasized.
"We're looking at the broad spectrum, the general areas we should concentrate on in the future," Muri said.
"Although comments on specific local projects and needs are always important to us, this meeting will focus on them only if they point to trends or are sympathetic to statewide concerns."
The department plans to create a total transportation plan for the state.
"The plan is a good start in our planning process," he said, "and we want to get more public involvement in where we're headed."
To schedule a presentation time, contact the department's public affairs office in Jefferson City at 751-2840.
Written comments may be sent to Transportation Plan, Public Affairs Division, Highway and Transportation Department, P.O. Box 270, Jefferson City, Mo. 65102.
