The Board of Appeals and Development Services Department of the city of Cape Girardeau will hold a public hearing at 3:30 p.m. today at city council chambers, 401 Independence St., to get input from residents on updating building codes.

People also may submit their suggestions in writing to the Division of Inspection Services.
The Board of Appeals has been discussing and considering these updates in a series of meetings that began last year. After the public hearing, the matter of updating codes will go before the city council for approval before the new rules can take effect.
