KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A proposed Kansas City ordinance would bar the family members of City Hall employees from volunteering in their same department where their relatives work.

The ordinance would regulate all volunteers at City Hall. But it was partly a response to a lawsuit against the city, Mayor Mark Funkhouser and his wife, Gloria Squitiro, who has a full-time, unpaid position in Funkhouser's office.

The measure would not apply to the city parks department.

The main sponsor, Councilwoman Jan Marcason, said volunteer guidelines are needed.

Funkhouser has said he would oppose it.

The measure is scheduled for debate Wednesday in committee.
