Cape Girardeau County tax bills are due by the end of the month. The Cape Girardeau County collector's office mailed out nearly 65,000 tax bills to residents and businesses in early November. Those bills are slowly trickling back in and are due in less than three weeks. Taxpayers may submit payment in person, by mail, online or in special drop boxes by Dec. 31 to avoid late penalties and added fees. Collector Diane Diebold said the county is expecting to bring in over $50 million for city and county services.
Diebold said 75 to 80 percent of the revenue collected within the county goes to school districts.
She said the county normally collects 90 percent of all taxes by the due date. The total Cape Girardeau County property valuation came in at $1.2 billion.
Taxpayers can pay bills in person at either the Cape or Jackson collector's office or call 243-4476 for assistance.
