CAIRO, Ill. -- David W. Barkett, owner of Barkett Funeral Home Ltd., of Cairo, has been inducted into the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice.
Barkett, who has completed 180 hours of continuing education in four designated areas academic, professional, civic and career review also has been accredited as a certified funeral service practitioner.
Barkett's Funeral Home was honored recently during the annual convention of the National Funeral Directors Association by being given a Pursuit of Excellence certificate. The award symbolizes funeral service excellence, unique programming, innovation, and achievement.

Ernie Hickman, a tractor-trailer driver for United Parcel Service, recently was recognized for completing 25 years of driving without an accident.
Hickman works out of the UPS facility in Cape Girardeau. He started with UPS in 1964 as a delivery driver in St. Louis.
Hickman and his wife, Susie, live in Cape Girardeau. They are parents of eight children.
