Ronald J. Long has been appointed assistant director of tax for BP Oil Co. at its corporate headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio.

Long, 35, a native of Cape Girardeau, joined BP in 1989. Prior to joining BP Oil, he served six years with the office of chief counsel for the Internal Revenue Service, where he litigated numerous cases before the U.S. Tax Court.

He has also lectured in the field of taxation at DePaul University School of Law in Chicago and the Cleveland State University College of Law. He is on the adjunct faculty in the graduate tax program at Case Western Reserve University of Law in Cleveland.

In his new position, Long will be responsible for coordination of tax planning, controversy and legislative matters. His appointment will become effective Nov. 1.

Long graduated magna cum laude with two degrees from Southeast Missouri State University, where he was recipient of the Young Alumni Merit Award. He earned his law degree from the University of Missouri School of Law and master of laws in taxation from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. He is also a certified public accountant.

Eileen M. Schlegl has been promoted to manager of marketing communications at ITT Commercial Finance Corp. in St. Louis.

Schlegl, a graduate of Missouri University School of Journalism at Columbia, worked as university relations specialist for Southeast Missouri State University in the St. Louis area before joining ITT in April 1990.

In her new position, she will be responsible for the company's employee communications and public relations program.
